Your questions answered
Am I eligible for home modifications?
Home modifications may be included as part of your NDIS plan if:
You and your carers are unable to reasonably access and use rooms and spaces in your primary residence
Your primary residence doesn't support your living and care arrangements
An Occupational Therapist has performed an assessment and recommended home modifications on your primary residence to support your functional goals
What is the process for home modifications under the NDIS?
Depending on your requirements and complexity of the proposed home modifications, there may be different processes.
A qualified Occupational Therapist is generally required to work with you to design modifications to meet your current and future needs.
If your modifications are complex, the NDIA may provide funds for a project manager or independent building certifier to assist.
Can I use my own builder?
Where complex home modifications are required, your plan may include funding to engage a building professional to consult with you and your Occupational Therapist on the recommended works. Modsquad can contract your builder to do the work or recommend one of our qualified contractors.
What do I need to provide?
You will generally be required to provide a quote from a builder to support your home modifications. For those exceeding $15,000, you may be required to submit two quotes. Modsquad can assist with getting the quotes needed for the process.
