My husband, children and I have been living with my MS for almost 10 years. Before the NDIS and looking back now our lives were pretty grim.
I was accepted onto the Ndis in 2018 and haven’t looked back.
I’m currently on my second plan and approved for home mods which included removing a privacy wall which stopped me from accessing the front door which than only lead to a step which with my progression of my disease become a huge fire hazard as most mornings I was home alone due to my husband having to work.
I had the initial meeting with Matt Brown from a Modsquad instantly he couldn’t do enough for Stephen my husband and myself.
Within a week we met with the builder who was introduced to me by Matt just to make sure I was happy, which as the weeks went on it is a extremely important part because they are in your home on a daily basis.
Matt continually checked on the workers through the day, we were given starting times so I could be dressed etc to face the day of tradies coming and going,we were updated daily on what they were up to and what tradies were turning up and when.
To my surprise my MS fatigue took a little adjusting to all the activities which I told Matt on the days I felt a little overwhelmed and he did everything in his power to lessen that feeling.
My home now is not a fire hazard and I have gained independence all by a local company who worked professionally and with understanding of what it’s like to live with a disability.
